About DS18B20 Waterproof Digital Temperature Sensor Probe (1m).
The DS18B20 is a digital temperature sensor from Maxim Integrated (originally Dallas Semiconductor) that reports temperature directly as a digital value over the 1-Wire bus. This version comes as a waterproof stainless-steel probe on a 1-metre cable, making it ideal for measuring the temperature of liquids, soil and other wet or outdoor environments where a bare sensor could not survive.
It is enormously popular in India for aquarium, brewing, sous-vide, water-heater, soil and weather projects because it is accurate, needs no calibration and is trivial to read. Each DS18B20 carries a unique 64-bit serial number burned in at the factory, so you can hang many probes on the same single data wire and address each one individually.
Communication uses just one data pin plus power and ground, and the sensor can even run in parasite-power mode over two wires. Well-supported libraries make it a few-line job on Arduino, ESP32, ESP8266 and Raspberry Pi.

Choose this waterproof DS18B20 probe when you need to measure temperature in water, soil, or any damp or outdoor spot where a bare board sensor cannot go. If you only need indoor air temperature (and often humidity too), a DHT22 or BME280 may be more suitable; if you need very high accuracy in a lab, consider a dedicated RTD.
Pair it with any 3.3V or 5V microcontroller. The one essential extra component is a 4.7kΩ pull-up resistor between the data line and VCC; many buyers add this themselves, though some cabled versions include it. On Arduino, use the OneWire and DallasTemperature libraries; on Raspberry Pi, enable the 1-Wire interface and read the sensor as a file.
Because each probe has a unique address, you can wire several probes to a single data pin for multi-zone monitoring, which is efficient for larger projects.

Which libraries do I use on Arduino?
Install the OneWire library and the DallasTemperature library from the Library Manager. Together they let you read temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit in just a few lines.
How do I wire the three coloured wires?
Typically red is VCC (3.3-5V), black is GND, and yellow (or white) is the data line. Connect a 4.7kΩ pull-up resistor between the data wire and VCC, then connect data to any digital pin.
Do I need the pull-up resistor?
Yes, a 4.7kΩ pull-up between the data line and VCC is required for reliable 1-Wire communication. Some cabled modules include it inside the connector; if yours does not, add one.
Can I read the water temperature directly?
Yes. The stainless-steel probe is sealed and waterproof, so you can immerse the tip in water, aquariums, soil or other liquids. Keep the cable-to-probe junction and wire ends dry.
