Overview

About MT3608 DC-DC Boost Step-Up Converter Module.

The MT3608 is a compact adjustable step-up (boost) converter that raises a low DC input to a higher output. It is the classic choice when you need to run 5V or higher from a single 3.7V LiPo, a couple of AA cells, or any source that sits below your target voltage.

Built around the MT3608 (SX1308-class) boost IC switching at 1.2MHz, the tiny board takes an input of about 2V to 24V and boosts it up to 28V, adjustable via an onboard trimmer, with a rated output current up to around 2A at lower step-up ratios. The high switching frequency keeps the inductor and board small enough to fit almost anywhere.

At around Rs 55 it is an extremely popular, space-saving power module for battery-driven IoT gadgets, wearables and portable projects across the Indian maker community.

Buying guide

How to choose.

Choose the MT3608 when your supply voltage is lower than what your load needs and current demand is modest (up to around 1-2A, and less as the step-up ratio grows). It is ideal for battery-powered and space-constrained builds where its tiny footprint shines.

Set the output with a multimeter on the trimmer before connecting the load. Remember the output current falls as you boost to higher voltages, so for a big step-up at higher current look at a beefier module. It boosts only, the output must be above the input; use an LM2596 to step down or an XL6009 for buck-boost.

Pair it with a single-cell LiPo or battery holder, a multimeter for setting the voltage, and a LiPo charger such as a TP4056 for a complete portable power chain.

FAQ

Common questions.

Can it turn a 3.7V LiPo into 5V?

Yes, that is one of its most common uses. Feed the LiPo in, adjust the trimmer to read 5.0V out, and you have a compact USB-style 5V source. It can also reach 9V or 12V at reduced current.

Can it lower voltage?

No. The MT3608 is a boost (step-up) converter, so the output must be equal to or higher than the input. To step down use an LM2596, or use an XL6009 if you need both up and down.

What is the real maximum current?

The rating is up to about 2A, but that is at low step-up ratios. As you boost to higher output voltages the available output current drops significantly, so size your load accordingly.

How do I set the output voltage?

Turn the small trimmer screw while measuring the output with a multimeter. Set it before connecting your circuit, as the module powers up at roughly the input voltage and rises as you turn the pot.

Is it available in India?

Yes, the MT3608 is a very common, low-cost module stocked by BotBit and shipped across India.
