Overview

About 300 RPM Dual Shaft BO Motor (Plastic Gear).

The 300 RPM Dual Shaft BO (Battery Operated) Motor is the workhorse behind nearly every beginner robotics project in India. It is a small plastic-geared DC motor with a yellow-and-blue housing, designed to run on low voltages between 3V and 6V, making it perfectly suited for battery-powered robot cars, line followers and school science exhibitions.

What makes this specific version handy is the dual-shaft (double-sided) design: the output shaft protrudes from both sides of the gearbox. One side drives the wheel, while the other side can hold a speed-encoder disk for measuring RPM and distance. This is why it is the standard motor bundled with 2WD and 4WD robot chassis kits.

At roughly Rs 60, it is one of the cheapest ways to get a geared, torquey drive motor. The plastic gear train keeps cost and weight down while still delivering enough torque to move a small robot at a comfortable speed. It mates directly with the popular 65mm rubber wheels that share the same double-D shaft profile.

Key features

Why it stands out.

Dual (double-sided) shaft: drive a wheel on one end, mount an encoder disk on the other

Wide operating voltage of 3V to 6V, ideal for battery packs and USB-level supplies

Plastic gearbox delivers geared torque while keeping cost and weight very low

Standard double-D output shaft fits common 65mm BO wheels without adapters

Mounting holes and standard footprint fit 2WD/4WD chassis and clamp brackets

Drives easily from an L298N or L293D motor driver with any Arduino/ESP board

Buying guide

How to choose.

Choose the dual-shaft 300 RPM version if you plan to add speed encoders for closed-loop control, PID tuning or accurate distance tracking; the second shaft is what accepts the slotted encoder disk. If you do not need encoders, a single-shaft BO motor works too, but the dual-shaft is only marginally more and future-proofs the build.

300 RPM is a good all-round balance of speed and torque for a small robot. Pick a lower RPM (like 100-200 RPM) if you want more pulling torque and slower, more controllable motion; pick higher RPM for faster cars with lighter loads.

Pair each motor with a 65mm BO wheel, an L298N or L293D motor driver, and a 6V (4xAA) or Li-ion battery pack. Buy motors in matched pairs (or fours) so both sides of the robot run at similar speeds.

FAQ

Common questions.

Is this motor single or dual shaft?

It is a dual-shaft (double-sided) motor. The shaft comes out of both sides of the gearbox, so you can put a wheel on one side and a speed-encoder disk on the other.

What voltage and driver should I use?

Run it at 3V to 6V. It is too much current to drive directly from an Arduino pin, so use a motor driver like the L298N or L293D between your microcontroller and the motor.

Which wheels fit this motor?

The standard 65mm x 27mm yellow BO rubber wheels fit directly onto the double-D flat shaft. They are the wheels bundled in most robot car kits.

Can I measure speed with it?

Yes. Mount a slotted encoder disk on the free (second) shaft and pair it with an IR speed-sensor module to count pulses for RPM, speed and distance.

Is it available in India?

Yes, it is one of the most widely stocked hobby motors in India and is sold individually or bundled inside 2WD and 4WD robot chassis kits.
