The TowerPro SG90 is the classic 9-gram micro servo that has become the default actuator for beginner robotics and RC projects. It provides around 180 degrees of rotation and delivers roughly 1.2-1.8 kg-cm of torque at 4.8-6V, all in a tiny plastic-geared package that weighs about 9 grams. It is controlled with a standard 50 Hz PWM signal, the same pulse-width scheme used across the hobby servo world.

It is enormously popular in India because it is extremely cheap, works directly from an Arduino or ESP32 with the built-in Servo library, and is small and light enough for pan-tilt camera mounts, robotic grippers and moving parts on 3D-printed builds. How to choose.

Choose the SG90 when your mechanism is light and you want the lowest-cost, easiest-to-drive servo for learning or a simple build. Its plastic gears are fine for low-stress movement but will wear or strip under heavy load or repeated stalling, so keep the torque demand modest.

For metal-gear durability at a similar size, step up to the MG90S; for much higher torque in a full-size body, look at the MG996R. If you need many servos, power them from a separate 5-6V supply rather than the microcontroller's regulator, and share a common ground.

Pair the SG90 with any board that can output servo PWM: Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi (via a driver) or a PCA9685 servo driver when you need many channels. Servo horns and screws are included, so it drops straight into most brackets.
