Overview
About Custom VTOL UAV (configured to mission).
The BotBit Custom VTOL UAV is a hybrid platform that combines the vertical take-off and landing of a multirotor with the efficient forward flight of a fixed-wing. It lifts off and lands vertically on its rotors - no runway, catapult or launch space needed - then transitions to wing-borne cruise for long-range, long-endurance coverage. This gives operators the best of both classes: deploy from confined or unprepared sites, yet still map large areas, inspect long corridors or hold long observation orbits. Because it is configured to your brief, the airframe, propulsion, payload and comms are chosen against your endurance, range and site constraints.
Each VTOL build runs a proven flight stack (ArduPilot or PX4 on a Pixhawk/CubePilot-class autopilot) with a transition controller that manages the switch between hover and forward flight - a phase where redundancy matters most. For higher-assurance and BVLOS-track missions we specify dual/triple IMUs, redundant GNSS and compass, redundant power paths and independent telemetry, plus configurable failsafes for the transition and cruise phases. Payload options span EO/IR gimbals, thermal, multispectral and LiDAR, with RTK GNSS and comms packages sized to your range budget.
It suits mapping and survey firms working from difficult terrain, pipeline, powerline and rail operators, coastal and maritime monitoring teams, security and public-safety agencies, and research groups that need runway-free deployment plus fixed-wing reach. VTOL adds mechanical and control complexity over a pure fixed-wing, so it is chosen when site flexibility genuinely matters. As a quote/RFQ product, price and lead time follow the agreed specification. In India we help align the platform to DGCA Drone Rules 2021 - UIN on Digital Sky/eGCA, category-appropriate type certification, Remote Pilot Certificate operation and BVLOS approvals where relevant.

Applications
Where it is used.
- Wide-area mapping and survey launched from confined, forested or rugged sites with no runway
- Linear-asset inspection of pipelines, powerlines, rail and canals over long corridors
- Coastal, maritime and offshore monitoring where vertical launch from vessels or small pads is needed
- Long-endurance aerial monitoring, border patrol and situational awareness from unprepared deployment points
- Disaster response and emergency mapping where rapid, runway-free deployment saves time
- Research, environmental monitoring and infrastructure planning requiring both reach and site flexibility
Buying guide
How to choose.
Build your RFQ around two things: the coverage/endurance you need and the sites you launch from. Tell us the area or corridor you must cover per sortie, the mapping accuracy or payload you carry (EO/IR, thermal, multispectral, LiDAR, RTK), and the range to target. Then describe your take-off and landing points - vessel decks, forest clearings, rooftops, disaster zones - because runway-free deployment is the core reason to choose VTOL over a pure fixed-wing.
Flag any transition-critical or BVLOS requirements early. The hover-to-cruise transition is where a VTOL is most demanding, so if your mission is high-assurance or beyond visual line of sight we build in redundant sensors, power and comms and appropriate failsafes from the start. Also share environment (altitude, wind, coastal/salt, temperature), transport and case needs, fleet size, and any existing ground-control standard so we match your workflow.
For India, we help align the platform to DGCA Drone Rules 2021 - UIN registration on Digital Sky/eGCA, the category-appropriate type certification route, and operation under a Remote Pilot Certificate from a DGCA-authorised RPTO. VTOL missions frequently run BVLOS, which needs specific DGCA approval; we advise on green/yellow/red airspace zones and the permissions involved, while airspace clearances remain the operator's responsibility.
FAQ
Common questions.
What is a VTOL UAV?
A hybrid that takes off and lands vertically like a multirotor, then transitions to fly on its wing like a fixed-wing. You get runway-free deployment plus the long endurance and coverage of an aeroplane-style platform - useful when you must launch from confined or unprepared sites yet still cover large areas.
Why choose VTOL over fixed-wing or multirotor?
Choose VTOL when you need both runway-free deployment and long range. A pure fixed-wing covers distance efficiently but needs launch/recovery space; a multirotor deploys anywhere but has short endurance. VTOL bridges the two, at the cost of extra mechanical and control complexity - so it's chosen when site flexibility genuinely matters.
Why is it quote-based?
Airframe, propulsion, transition setup, payload, redundancy and comms are all configured against your coverage, endurance and launch-site brief. A VTOL for offshore inspection differs from one for inland mapping, so we quote per configuration rather than list a fixed price. Send your requirements for a scoped quotation.
Is the transition phase reliable?
The hover-to-cruise transition is the most demanding part of VTOL flight, so we run it on a proven ArduPilot or PX4 flight stack with a tuned transition controller and configurable failsafes. For high-assurance work we add redundant IMUs, GNSS, power and telemetry so the platform can handle faults through transition and cruise.
Can it operate BVLOS in India?
VTOL missions often run beyond visual line of sight, and we can configure the platform for it with robust datalinks and redundancy. BVLOS in India requires specific DGCA approval and is not automatic - flag it during scoping so we architect comms and redundancy for it and advise on the approval path.
What are the India compliance requirements?
Small category and above needs a UIN on Digital Sky/eGCA, a Remote Pilot Certificate from a DGCA-authorised RPTO, and type certification as applicable under DGCA Drone Rules 2021. We align the build to these; airspace zone permissions and flight clearances remain the operator's responsibility.
