Overview

About 4WD Four Wheel Drive Smart Robot Car Chassis Kit (Double Layer).

The 4WD Four Wheel Drive Smart Robot Car Chassis Kit is the sturdier, higher-traction upgrade to the classic 2WD base. It uses a transparent double-layer (two-plate) acrylic frame with four BO geared motors, giving all four wheels drive power for better grip and pulling force on ramps, carpet and uneven floors.

The two-deck design is the main advantage: motors and the battery holder sit on the lower plate while your controller, driver board and sensors mount on the upper plate. This keeps wiring tidy and gives you far more mounting space than a single round plate, which is why builders choose it for more ambitious projects.

At roughly Rs 567, it is the popular next step up from a 2WD kit. It ships with all four motors, four wheels, a battery holder and the complete fastener set, so you have everything mechanical needed to build a capable four-wheel robot.

Buying guide

How to choose.

Choose the 4WD double-layer kit over the 2WD when you need more traction and pulling power, or when your project has enough sensors and boards that you want two decks of mounting space. Four driven wheels grip better on carpet and can climb small ramps that a 2WD struggles with.

Be aware that 4WD needs more current: driving four motors means a beefier battery and a motor driver that can handle the combined load. Wire the two left motors together and the two right motors together so each side is controlled as one channel for tank-style steering.

Pair it with an L298N (or two drivers for higher current), an Arduino UNO or ESP32, and a 7.4V Li-ion pack for the extra motors. The included battery holder handles AA cells; many builders swap to a Li-ion pack for longer run time.

FAQ

Common questions.

How do I control four motors with one L298N?

Wire the two left-side motors in parallel to one driver channel and the two right-side motors to the other channel. Both wheels on each side then turn together, giving standard differential (tank) steering.

Is 4WD better than 2WD?

It has more traction, more pulling power and more mounting space, which helps on rough surfaces and heavier builds. It costs more, draws more current and is slightly harder to turn on high-grip floors than a lighter 2WD.

What is in the box?

Four BO gear motors, four 65mm wheels, the two transparent acrylic plates, a battery holder, and the full set of screws, nuts, spacers and motor clamps. Controller, driver and battery cells are bought separately.

Does it include speed encoders?

This double-layer 4WD kit typically ships without encoder disks. If you need speed/distance sensing, add slotted encoder disks and IR speed sensors, or choose an encoder-equipped 4WD kit.

What controller works with it?

It is controller-agnostic. Arduino UNO/Nano, ESP32 and Raspberry Pi all mount on the upper deck; just add a motor driver rated for four BO motors.
