Overview
About RFD900x ARM Ultra-Long-Range Telemetry Modem.
The RFD900x is RFDesign's flagship ultra-long-range telemetry and control modem, built around a new ARM 32-bit core processor. Like the RFD900+ it delivers 1W (30dBm) output in the 902-928MHz band with dual RP-SMA connectors and automatic antenna diversity, but the newer processor unlocks higher maximum air data rates (up to 500/750kbps) and adds hardware-accelerated AES encryption for secure links. A high-IP3 low-noise amplifier and RX SAW filter keep performance strong in congested RF environments.
It runs the original SiK point-to-point firmware (with asynchronous multipoint firmware available), passing MAVLink transparently to ArduPilot, PX4, Mission Planner and QGroundControl. Air data rates from 12 to 750kbps and UART baud rates up to 1Mbaud give wide flexibility to trade range for throughput, and six general-purpose I/O pins support advanced integrations. Long-range demonstrations exceed 40km, with much longer links shown under ideal conditions, making it a top choice for demanding professional missions.
The RFD900x targets professional UAV/UGV operators, BVLOS platforms and long-endurance survey aircraft that need maximum range, antenna diversity and encrypted links in one rugged module. Quality-sourced components make it well suited to demanding commercial and enterprise deployments.

Buying guide
How to choose.
The RFD900x is the modem to choose when you need the longest range plus features the RFD900+ lacks: AES hardware encryption, an ARM processor, higher air data rates up to 750kbps and more GPIO. For secure or high-bandwidth telemetry, it is the clear pick over the older 900+.
It operates in the 902-928MHz band, which is regulated differently across regions. Confirm the legal allocation and permitted power for this band in India before purchase and operation, especially at 1W output, and budget for quality directional ground antennas and coax to realise the long-range potential.
For demanding enterprise and industrial deployments, pair the modem with antenna diversity and a properly configured ground station, and enable AES encryption when link confidentiality is required.
FAQ
Common questions.
What does the ARM processor add over the RFD900+?
The ARM 32-bit core enables higher maximum air data rates (up to 500/750 kbps), hardware-accelerated AES encryption and improved processing headroom. The RFD900+ is capable but tops out at lower air data rates and lacks built-in encryption.
Does the RFD900x support encryption?
Yes. It includes hardware-accelerated AES encryption that can secure the telemetry and control link without significant performance penalty, which is valuable for enterprise and industrial missions where confidentiality matters.
What range can it achieve?
Long-range links exceeding 40km have been demonstrated, with much longer links shown under ideal conditions using directional antennas and clean line of sight. Real-world range depends on antennas, terrain, mounting height and the selected air data rate.
Is it suitable for professional long-range links?
Yes. The RFD900x is built for reliable long-range links with antenna diversity and optional AES encryption. Confirm any specific compliance documentation you require with your supplier for your application.
Can I use it in India on 915MHz?
The 902-928MHz band is allocated differently by region and is not license-exempt everywhere. Verify the current rules and permitted power for this band in India before operating, and obtain any required authorisation, particularly for 1W transmission.
Does it work with Mission Planner and PX4?
Yes. It runs SiK point-to-point firmware and passes MAVLink transparently, so it integrates with ArduPilot, PX4, Mission Planner and QGroundControl. Multipoint firmware is also available for networked topologies.
