Overview

About Mesh Data-Link Network (system).

The BotBit Mesh Data-Link Network is a self-organising radio communications system that lets a fleet of drones, ground vehicles and control stations share command, telemetry and video traffic without depending on a single central tower. Instead of every aircraft talking directly back to one base station, each radio node in a mesh doubles as a transmitter, receiver and relay. Data automatically 'hops' node-to-node along the best available path, so coverage extends around terrain, buildings and beyond-line-of-sight obstacles that would break a conventional point-to-point link.

Architecturally the system is built on a Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) design. Nodes discover each other dynamically, the network re-routes traffic in real time as platforms move, and if any node is lost or interrupted, neighbouring nodes re-establish a route through an alternative path. This self-healing behaviour removes the single point of failure inherent in hub-and-spoke setups and supports point-to-point, point-to-multipoint and many-to-many topologies from the same hardware. Adaptive modulation and IP-based transport let the network balance throughput for video against low-latency control channels as conditions change.

It is built for organisations running multi-platform or swarm operations where continuous connectivity matters more than a fixed link: survey and mapping teams, security and perimeter operators, infrastructure inspection fleets, disaster-response units and enterprise integrators. Because BotBit configures the mesh around your platforms, spectrum plan and range profile, the network is delivered as an engineered, quote-based system rather than an off-the-shelf part.

Key features

Why it stands out.

Self-healing MANET routing automatically reroutes traffic when a node is lost, moves or drops out, eliminating the single point of failure of hub-and-spoke links.

Multi-hop relay lets each node extend coverage around terrain and obstacles, supporting beyond-line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight operations across a fleet.

Flexible topology supports point-to-point, point-to-multipoint and many-to-many networking from one common radio, so the same kit scales from a pair of platforms to a swarm.

IP-based transport carries command, telemetry and video on one network, with adaptive modulation prioritising low-latency control against high-throughput payload data.

Configured per deployment around your platforms, range profile and India spectrum plan, then supported end-to-end as an engineered system rather than a boxed component.

Buying guide

How to choose.

Because a mesh network is engineered around your operation, an accurate RFQ speeds up quoting. Tell us how many platforms and control stations must be on the network at once, the topology you need (a simple pair, a hub with several drones, or full many-to-many swarm), the traffic mix (control and telemetry only, or live video too), and your target operating range and environment (open terrain, urban, hilly or forested).

Also share your platforms and integration points: the autopilots, ground control software and payloads the mesh must connect to, and any size, weight or power limits on the airborne nodes. Note whether you operate line-of-sight or need beyond-line-of-sight relay, and whether the network must interoperate with existing radios you already run.

Spectrum is decisive in India, so state where you intend to operate and any band preference. India's 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands are de-licensed for low-power use, while dedicated or higher-power spectrum and imported radio equipment involve WPC procedures (ETA / licensing). BotBit will propose a compliant band and licensing path with the quote. Send your RFQ with these details and we will scope a configured mesh, integration support and a formal quotation.

FAQ

Common questions.

How is a mesh data-link different from a normal point-to-point telemetry link?

A point-to-point link connects two fixed endpoints; if that path is blocked or a radio fails, the link drops. In a mesh, every node also relays traffic, so data automatically hops through neighbouring nodes and reroutes around failures. That gives beyond-line-of-sight reach and resilience that a single direct link cannot provide.

What does 'self-healing' actually mean here?

Self-healing means the network continuously monitors routes between nodes. If a node moves out of range, is switched off, or is interrupted, adjacent nodes detect the loss and re-establish a path through an alternative node. The operator generally sees the network adapt automatically without manually reconfiguring the link.

How many drones or vehicles can the mesh support?

The system scales from two platforms up to multi-node swarms, and the practical number depends on your topology, traffic mix and spectrum plan. Video-heavy operations consume more capacity per node than control-and-telemetry-only setups. Tell us your fleet size in the RFQ and we will scope capacity accordingly.

What range can I expect?

Range depends on the frequency band, transmit power, antennas and terrain, and multi-hop relay effectively extends coverage by passing traffic through intermediate nodes. We do not quote a fixed figure without your operating profile; share your environment and target distance and we will propose a realistic range and node layout.

Do I need a WPC licence to run this in India?

It depends on the band and power. India's 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands are de-licensed for low-power use, while dedicated or higher-power spectrum and imported radio equipment involve WPC procedures such as Equipment Type Approval or licensing. We will recommend a compliant configuration and outline the applicable WPC path with your quote; final approvals rest with the operator.

Can it carry live video as well as command and telemetry?

Yes. The network is IP-based and can carry command, telemetry and video together, with adaptive modulation prioritising low-latency control while allocating remaining capacity to payload video. The exact video quality depends on the band, range and how many streams run at once, which we size during scoping.
