Overview
About LJI ZD680 Foldable Survey Frame.
The LJI ZD680 is a larger 680mm foldable quadcopter airframe in 3K full carbon fiber, stepping up from the ZD550 to carry bigger propellers and heavier payloads for survey, mapping and aerial photography. The extra wheelbase gives more prop clearance and lift, making it suited to longer-endurance camera and sensor missions where stability and payload capacity outweigh the need for compactness. Like its sibling, it folds for transport and locks rigid in flight, and ships with a carbon-fibre landing skid.
The 680mm platform accepts 3508-class motors with 12-15 inch propellers, runs 30A-40A ESCs on 4S-6S batteries, and uses a reinforced 3mm bottom plate to handle the loads of a larger multirotor. Its foldable arms with tripod-style connectors collapse for travel, so a relatively large survey aircraft can still be carried to remote field sites and deployed quickly. The roomy main plate leaves space for an autopilot, telemetry, GPS and an underslung payload.
It targets survey and mapping operators needing more lift than a 550mm frame, aerial photography and inspection builders, and ArduPilot/PX4 users assembling an autonomous platform for field work. The combination of folding portability and higher payload makes it a practical mid-size survey base.

Buying guide
How to choose.
The ZD680 is a frame kit, so budget for four 3508-class motors, 12-15 inch propellers, four 30A-40A ESCs, a flight controller such as a Pixhawk, GPS, telemetry, a radio and a 4S-6S battery. Its larger 680mm size and 3mm reinforced bottom plate suit heavier camera or sensor payloads than the 550mm ZD550.
Choose the ZD680 over the ZD550 when you need more lift and a more stable platform for survey, mapping or inspection payloads, and you can accept the larger folded size. Both fold for transport, but the 680mm frame trades some portability for greater payload capacity and prop clearance.
Size your power system to your payload: lower-KV 3508 motors on 6S with 15 inch props give efficient cruising for endurance missions. Mount sensors on the underside with vibration isolation, verify total all-up weight stays within thrust margin, and confirm prop clearance in both folded and deployed arm positions before flying.
FAQ
Common questions.
How is the ZD680 different from the ZD550?
The ZD680 has a larger 680mm wheelbase versus 550mm, giving more lift, prop clearance and payload capacity. Both are foldable carbon quad frames using 3508 motors, but the 680mm is better for heavier survey and mapping payloads, while the 550mm packs down smaller and is lighter.
What payload can the ZD680 carry?
Payload depends on the motor, propeller and battery combination you choose rather than the frame alone. With efficient 3508 motors and 15 inch props on 6S, the 680mm platform can lift a substantial camera or sensor package, as long as total all-up weight stays within the motors' thrust margin.
Is it suitable for mapping and survey work?
Yes. The stable 680mm platform, reinforced bottom plate and payload room make it a practical base for mapping and survey when paired with a Pixhawk-class autopilot, GPS and a survey camera or multispectral sensor. Mount the payload with vibration isolation for clean data.
What motors and ESCs are recommended?
The frame is designed for 3508-class brushless motors with 12-15 inch propellers, 30A-40A ESCs and 4S-6S batteries. Choose lower-KV motors for efficient endurance and size the props and battery to your payload and target flight time.
Does it fold for transport?
Yes, the ZD680 uses foldable arms so a relatively large survey aircraft can be collapsed for travel and quickly deployed in the field. This makes it practical for operators moving between remote sites where carrying a fixed-arm 680mm frame would be cumbersome.
What flight controller should I use?
ArduPilot/APM or PX4 controllers such as Pixhawk are the usual choice, since they support GPS waypoint missions, return-to-home and the autonomous survey modes this platform is built for. Any modern multirotor flight controller suited to a large quad will work.
